About Erika's Art

I’m Erika Jâmece, an artist passionate about bringing emotions to life on canvas, sometimes blending other media for texture and depth; they include engraving, ceramics and fabrics.

I was born in Luanda in 1977. I studied art at the National Institute of Training Artistic and Cultural - National School of Plastic Arts in Luada, Angola, followed by more advanced studies at Institute of Intensive Professional Education - Lisbon - Portugal. After formal studies, I worked on developing my own techniques emphasizing interplay of shapes and colors.

Between Angola and Portugal, I am known in my artistic circles as the Queen of the Hongolo - that in Kimbundo (one of the native languages of one of the ethnic groups of Angola) means Rainbow. The fantasy of color, creative freedom and African roots are dominant traits throughout my art.

My studio is nestled in a cozy corner of Portland, where creativity flows freely every day.
